You may not know that the name Big Ben actually refers to the enormous bell that chimes to mark the hour in the clock tower of the Houses of Parliament. The tower itself is commonly refered to as Big Ben, and along with the dome of St Paul's Cathedral, it is one of the most famous landmarks in London.
The Clock Tower was built in the XIXth century in the Gothic Victorian style, and it measures almost 100 metres in height. It is topped with an iron steeple of around 30 metres.
